“The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.” – Proverbs 22:4It’s interesting how Scripture flips the way of success. If anyone has been in the world, they know we are fed the story of, “If it’s to be, it’s up to me”. Proverbs shows a more accurate way for a success in alignment with a healthy respect for God & a knowing that the world & everything in it belongs to God. Which makes it fairly obvious how important it is to be humble. I live in the United States, which is the wealthiest country in the world. Riches make it very easy to be blinded & feel comfort in not needing God on a day-to-day basis. Jesus taught, you cannot have 2 masters; either you have money as what is most important, or you can make the Lord what is most important. So, to go back to today’s verse, the only way to success & riches is to remain humble & know the Lord controls all situations. To step back & look at a vaster view, Jesus taught about having worldly success at the risk of losing one’s soul. This is humbling. I’m not against riches, honor, & a successful life; yet I feel we must all be careful where our daily focus is. The Lord gives, & the Lord takes away. God has the power & authority to do anything He wants. I’m thankful He is a just God, & that Love is the key to handle any problems with a godly solution. |
